I miss football. What stinks about this list: of course, no highlights by a Lions’ running back. What’s great about this list: #1 run is against the Chicago Bears.

Sen. Arlen Specter says he’s “too busy” for Spygate probe. NFL and sports fans in general say, “Good…we never wanted your help anyway.”

Political Grandstander Extraordinaire, Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, said Mon. he will no longer conduct a Senate committee probe of Spygate, the “scandal” involving the New England Patriots football team and their habit of occasionally violating league rules. The NFL had already investigated, but as a Senator, Specter has an inborn desire to get his face in front of cameras. He almost can’t help it, really, it’s part of a politicians DNA. He actually spoke a little wisdom when he said,
“…we’ve got too many other bigger problems to deal with.”
Specter apparently remembered that we’ve been in a cluster(bleep) of a war for 5 yrs. now, one with no end in sight. I guess that *might* and I do stress *might*, take precedence over the policing of a pro. sporting league by elected representatives.
Oh, and before you think like the ridiculous situation is done, Specter added,
“If the NFL continues to leave a vacuum,” he added, “Congress may be tempted to fill it.”
Translation: If I think I can get enough press-hungry whore..err, Senators behind me, we’ll get ‘cha!

Some have also proposed that Specter is basically a hired-gun of Comcast. Specter’s #1 campaign contributor? Black Rome LLP, a PAC, setup by the law firm that represents Comcast. His #2 contributor? Comcast. Why is this important?
Comcast Cable is currently involved in a dispute with the NFL with regard to a cable deal concerning the NFL Network. Arlen Specter has taken $153,600 in campaign contributions from Comcast or those affiliated with Comcast as employees or through its PAC. The only firm which has given more money to Specter is the law firm Blank Rome LLP, which represents Comcast and which has given Specter $358,453 although the organization itself did not donate, rather the money came from the organization’s PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals’ immediate families. Arlen Specter has publicly declared that he would support legislation ending the NFL’s anti-trust exemption, allowing local teams to negotiate their own cable contracts to the benefit of Comcast.
