VICTORY! Proposal 1 passes in Michigan-A special note of thanks from the Chum Master

November 6, 2008

I sent this letter to friends and family early Weds, but thought I’d share it here as I know there are 1000’s of others in my state and around the U.S. who have similar stories.

Michigan’s Proposal 1, which would legalize the use of marijuana by patients with serious medical conditions such as cancer, AIDS/HIV, MS, and others, passed overwhelmingly Tues. evening, 63%-37% at last check. Michigan residents demonstrated what true compassion is, and seriously ill patients no longer face jail for relieving their suffering. This was a true grassroots, volunteer-lead campaign effort from beginning to end. I’d like to personally thank everyone that signed the petitions a yr. ago when I was hounding you at work, school, or anywhere I could find you, as well of those of you that took yard signs from me and spread the word to your friends and family, or donated money, and most importantly those of you that voted “Yes.”

As you may have guessed, I’m very passionate about this subject. While I’ve become kind of an amateur medicinal marijuana expert because of my policy studies in grad school, I also have a personal stake in this movement. In the interest of disclosure, yes, I do have a condition that is covered under Prop 1. I share these details only to perhaps put a familiar face on this vote. Some of you may have visited me in the hospital after one of my surgeries, or had me skip out on work or family functions because I’m knocked out on pain meds or side effects from treatment. I’ve been on 21 different medications in the last 3 yrs to keep my condition in check but so far, the most relief I can manage is a few months before the medicine decreases in effectiveness. Every “miracle drug” I’ve tried had results far less impressive than the shiny drug co. booklet promised. I will evaluate whether to use marijuana when the law is in full effect after I consult with my doctors and my employer to see if my employer will accommodate the new legislation or not. However, it’s comforting to know that an option which has demonstrated tremendous effectiveness, with far fewer side effects than my current meds, is legally available. Playing with my two little babies while hooked up to assorted machinery, although exciting, isn’t as easy as one would think.

I met some amazing people while working on this initiative, people whose suffering and bravery far exceed my own. These people and their loved ones were forced to sneak around to avoid arrest and prosecution. They and their families have gone through a hell that you and I can never imagine and marijuana has been the only medicine that enabled them to go through yet another round of chemotherapy, or to ease the debilitating nerve pain that keeps them bedridden, or prevents them from vomiting up the meds that keeps AIDS/HIV from taking their life. So, even if you supported Prop 1 just because I was hounding you, please know that your vote has removed the threat of arrest from the minds of some seriously ill people who already carry too heavy a burden. So, pat yourselves on the back as you’ve done a very good thing. Sick people simply wanted relief, and you’ve given it to them.

The Republicrats-A new party for the people, of the people. Their candidate doesn’t give a shit about anything…or does he? It’s all up to you!

August 25, 2008

The Republicrats: They’ll do exactly what you tell them to. In fact, they’re soliciting videos from supporters. Candidate Sean Masterson readily admits he has no idea what he’s doing. Also, he’s actively seeking a First Lady with one caveat: no virgins. Check out some of their videos below. Meet the Presidential candidate and his staff. Funny stuff.

LOLcats for freedom

Actor Liev Schreiber is younger clone of possible Obama VP Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine

July 29, 2008

** Exclusive**

Is the press so in love with Obama that they’ll ignore this potentially explosive scandal? Tim Kaine obviously conducted some type of illegal cloning experiment. A closer look at both versions.

Democrat Governor of Virginia, Tim Kaine: He’s a politician….elected to blah, blah, blah. Served on blah, blah, blah. Might be a Vice Presidential candidate…..

And the younger and more successful clone:

Actor Liev Schreiber: He’s won a Tony Award, directed one of my favorite films, Everything is Illuminated, is going to star as Sabertooth in the new X-Men/Wolverine film, and is engaged to Naomi Watts.

Obviously, the Schreiber clone has far exceeded the Kaine version. In fact, for Gov. Tim Kaine, allowing Schreiber might be both a political liability, but even worse, a personal insult. Liev Schreiber should consider some serious security before it’s too late.

Texas (big surprise) police raid swingers’ club with guns drawn to stop consenting adults from having sex

July 23, 2008

Well, I’m sure everyone is so much safer now.  Moral busybodies….<sighs>.  Does anyone else think that police preventing people from exercising their free will over their own bodies, either through sex or drug usage, must really cost a pretty penny?  It’s for your safety!

DUNCANVILLE – Police raided a notorious swingers’ club Saturday night, confiscating personal property from more than 50 people who were there.

Duncanville police executed a search warrant at the club, the Cherry Pit, which has been the subject of a Duncanville ordinance that bans sex clubs.

No one was arrested.

“They had guns drawn when they busted down the door,” said Ed Klein, the Cherry Pit’s attorney. “You’d have thought this was some kind of meth lab.”

A lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the ordinance was scheduled to be heard this week, but was postponed.

The search warrant alleges violations of the city ordinance, including operating a sex club in a residential neighborhood.

Jim Trulock, 59, and Julie M. Norris, 30, operate the club at their house in the 1300 block of North Cedar Ridge Drive.

City officials have said that the club is a public nuisance that is “detrimental to the health, safety and welfare of the city of Duncanville.”

Duncanville officials declined to be interviewed this afternoon, but did issue a news release.

“The Cherry Pit, located in a Duncanville neighborhood, is advertised as a swingers’ club and has been previously cited for violating the City of Duncanville Code of Ordinances,” it said.

Mr. Trulock has received 10 citations, five for operating a sex club and five for operating a sexually oriented business without a license, city public information officer Tonya Lewis said.

Duncanville police said this afternoon that they were still cataloguing the evidence collected. The city wasn’t releasing details about what was found, but Mr. Klein said wallets, credit cards and purses were confiscated.

Mr. Klein said guests were photographed, and police took their work information before letting them go early Sunday morning.

NPR: Apparently, some Food Stamp recipients in Ohio have to cut back on ice cream

July 20, 2008

NPR ran a story recently on how the state of the Ohio economy is forcing some people to have to cut back on groceries. Check out excerpts below. Thanks to Moonbattery for highlighting this story. Gloria Nunez and her daughter Angelica Hernandez, featured in this story, are pictured below. You can see this pic and read the full story at the NPR link at the top of this column. Socialist media places failed socialist polices on public display.

Nunez and most of her siblings and their spouses are unemployed and rely on government assistance and food stamps. Some have part-time jobs, but working is made more difficult with no car or public transportation.

Nunez, 40, has never worked and has no high school degree. She says a car accident 17 years ago left her depressed and disabled, incapable of getting a job. Instead, she and her daughter, Angelica Hernandez, survive on a $637 Social Security check and $102 in food stamps.

The rising cost of food means their money gets them about a third fewer bags of groceries — $100 used to buy about 12 bags of groceries, but now it’s more like seven or eight. So they cut back on expensive items like meat, and they don’t buy extras like ice cream anymore. Instead, they eat a lot of starches like potatoes and noodles.
