Combover+synthesizer+obsession with 1 cheesy video effect=our first Video Wars Submission in a long time. Bonus: serious introspection at the 0:47 mark.
“Chan Chan” is an original song by the late Cuban artist Compay Segundo. It’s the opening track on the soundtrack to Buena Vista Social Club, a fascinating movie that documents the story of several Cuban jazz musicians. Buena Vista Social Club is available on NetFlix and is highly recommended. You’ll love it, and if it doesn’t work out for you, put your hand out like the rest of the country in hopes the government will bail you out of your situation.
It goes without saying that Miles Davis was extremely talented and influential, but I had to throw up this clip of his song “In a Silent Way” from the 1969 album of the same name. Very minimalist, and a precursor to jazz fusion and, dare I say, ambient music in general? You can really hear Brian Eno in this piece. Great album…one of many from Davis.
