Video Wars: “Freaxx” by Brokencyde

November 23, 2008

Video Wars started as an informal gag between myself and some friends. We would send terrible music videos to one another in an attempt to out-mortify one another. These videos are not for the faint of heart, or for those who have an empty stomach. This week’s entry is “Freaxx” by Brokencyde. This is a perfect storm of terrible-ness and shows the ugly side of the availability of audio and video recording technology. Seriously, this might the most awful thing I’ve ever seen. I know it’ll be painful, but watch the whole thing. It jumps off to uncharted regions of suck around the 1:50 mark.

The Smoking Gun’s weekly mugshot roundup

November 16, 2008

Why are there so many of these tshirts with lettering in mugshots? My fellow caucasians, we can do better than this. Throw on a polo-shirt every once in awhile before you’re arrested, ok?  Stop dragging us all down.

More winners here.

Hot Chicks with Douchebags-Life choices

Shelly’s Poor Life Choice

Somewhere, deep within her primordial subconscious, Shelly suddenly senses that she may have made a poor life choice.

We here at Your Daily Chum are huge fans of one of the funniest blogs on the internet, Hot Chicks with Douchebags. Bags combines some of the best elements of a blog: user-submitted content, snarky writing and comments, and an unabashed desire to expose douchebaggery everywhere. (the last part is kind of easy as douchebags, like telemarketers, are seemingly without shame and thus they practical beg to be found)

Check out Hot Chicks with Douchebags as they update their content almost daily.

Russia to outlaw Emo?

Emo to be made illegal in Russia?

A new Russian law could make being an emo kid illegal in the eastern European country.

Legislation is currenting being formulated in Russia to heavily regulate emo websites and ban emo and goth dress style in schools and government buildings.

The new laws are apparently being driven by fears that these “dangerous teen trends” encourage depression and suicide.

The legislation was presented last month at a hearing held by the State Durma, where critics claimed that the “negative” emo culture encourages anti-social behaviour and glorifies suicide.

Emo kids were described as teenagers who wear black, have facial piercings and black hair with fringes that “cover half the face”, reports The Guardian

The weekend saw mass protests by Russian emo kids.

In Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, where laws are already being implemented, protestors in a march held signs saying “A Totalitarian State Encourages Stupidity”.

Dmitry Gilevich of Russian emo band MAIO stepped in backing the protests, saying: “Expressing psychological emotions is not forbidden by law.”

However, emo critics remain unconvinced.

Alexander Grishunin, an adviser to bill sponsor Yevgeny Yuryev, described a ban as necessary, stating: “This is the first step in the public discourse.”

The moves in Russia follow criticism of the genre in the UK earlier this year, which saw My Chemical Romance fans protesting at the offices of British newspaper The Daily Mail over their coverage which linked emo with suicide.

A battle of “cultures”-Emos vs. punks and metalheads

June 22, 2008

Apparently, there’s a burgeoning Emo scene in Mexico, which may have something to do with the wave of immigrants coming to the U.S.  More research is needed on that.   Anyway, as if the news that Emo has spread to Mexico isn’t sad enough, apparently the Emo kids have been targets of violence lately. Punks and metal kids can’t stand emos for “ripping off the scene.” Yes, that’s right, the pinnacle of culture that manifests itself in punk and metal kids is in danger of being denigrated. Ck. out this MTV News clip detailing animosity between the 3 <gulp> cultures.

My favorite, and most accurate, Emo video, “Tickle Me Emo” from Mad TV.
