“All I Ever Get for Christmas is Blue” by Over the Rhine

December 24, 2008

Over the Rhine is one of our favorite bands here at Chum HQ.  If you’re not familiar, they have a similar sound to The Cowboy Junkies.  Comprised of husband and wife Linford Detweiler and Karen Bergquist and rotating band members, Over the Rhine has been making sweet, sweet music since 1991.  You should now go and purchase every single release by this band, both their studio releases and live recordings.

Bonus: one of the band’s songs was featured on the wedding compilation issued to all those fortunate enough to attend the nuptials of the Chum Master and Mrs. Chum.  What?  You weren’t invited?  It’s because we knew you’d regift that cheap toaster.  Again.

Check out this live performance of “All I Ever Get for Christmas is Blue” from their 2006 album Snow Angels.  It’s one of the best Christmas albums ever, next to The Darkest Night of the Year, another Over the Rhine release.   You can learn more about Over the Rhine at their official website or at their Myspace page.

Santa as a secret agent out to save the world….he gets the job done, only he doesn’t play by the rules.
